Fred J Goers Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fred Goers, a devoted Spartan, graduated from Michigan State University in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree, and later two master’s degrees in education. Fred began his career in education in Montrose, Michigan, where he worked as a geometry and physics teacher, driver’s education instructor, and football coach. In 1969, Fred accepted the position of assistant principal of DeWitt High School and became the school’s principal in 1973. DHS soon became Fred’s second home; for the next two decades, he was a constant fixture at football games, basketball games, band concerts, musicals, and Friday night dances. In retirement, Fred continued his dedication to education by serving on the DeWitt Public School Board of Education. Fred also served as a member of CASE Credit Unions Board of Directors, Audit Committee, and Scholarship Committee in which he was very instrumental in the management of the scholarship process.
In honor of Fred’s lifelong service in education, the Fred J Goers Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up.
